The trio identified a gap in the Asian market for a bespoke luxury tour operator. In Sydney, we met up with Lexi Shuttleworth, Group Marketing Manager and Steph Wetherell, Head of Product and Sales.  L-R: Lightfoot Travel’s Lexi Shuttleworth and Steph WetherellThe pair explained that Lightfoot Travel is based on an experiential ethos of finding unique experiences from around the world. “Asia is still our core market with 50 per cent of our business being travel within Asia, but more and more places like Africa and South America are really sought after,” said Steph Wetherell, who has lived in Chile and speaks Spanish.“The Australian market is very similar to the UK market where people are looking for something a little bit different. We are seeing more Australian clients on our journeys so it’s worth having a presence here,” said Lexi Shuttleworth. The trends they are seeing in types of holidays being designed and booked is for multi-generational travel and also for ‘achievement holidays’ where people tie in a significant achievement or milestone, in the sense of ‘earning’ their holiday (eg. running a marathon). “We are scoping out more trips that can work with the different age groups in the one party,” said Steph.Sri Lanka ranks as the company’s number one visited destination. Other hot destinations in 2018 for Lightfoot Travel customers were Iran, Mongolia and Bhutan. “In 2019, we are looking at Israel, Madagascar and further Eastern European countries such as Albania and Romania. In Sri Lanka, we’re starting to head into the more northern and less-visited parts of the country. We’re trying to look for new angles in the countries where we already visit,” said Steph.Agents interested in working with Lightfoot Travel should reach out through the website or email info@lightfoottravel.com.The company produce a magazine called Travel by Lightfoot. The Singapore head office can be reached on +65 6438 4091.As well as private holidays, the company also arranges Group and Corporate travel.
