CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT Selectman Kevin Caira To Run For ReElection Meet Greet Set

first_imgWILMINGTON, MA — Below is an announcement from Selectman Chair Kevin Caira’s re-election campaign:Kevin Caira is a candidate for re-election to the Board of Selectmen. Caira, who currently serves as Chairman of the Board, was first elected in 2016. Caira stressed that he believes he has been a positive influence on the direction of the Town. “My goal is to ensure that Wilmington continues to grow responsibly, that we maintain its affordability and that the Town adequately provides programs and services for all of our residents.”Caira served the Town as Vice Chairman of both the Yentile Farm Recreational Development Committee and the Nine Cross Street Fundraising Committee. This 20 acre park, the largest and most comprehensive recreational facility in Wilmington, provides both active and passive recreational opportunities for all ages, and includes ten acres of open space. Recently, the Town received two major awards in recognition of the development and construction of this unique facility: the Silver Award in Engineering Excellence presented by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Massachusetts and the 2019 Massachusetts Recreational and Park Associations Design of Facility Award. In addition, during his term as a Selectman, Caira served on the Tax Increment Finance Committee, which resulted in Wilmington’s largest employer, Analog Devices, investing nearly $143 million in new construction and employing an additional 600 individuals to its Wilmington facility, which now serves as its global headquarters.Caira is a founding member and Vice Chairman of the Wildcat Athletic Alumni and Friends Association, which raises funds for Wilmington High School student athletes and athletic programs. He coached Wilmington Little League and Senior League baseball and served as a basketball coach for the Wilmington Recreation Department, where with the Department, he initiated a new basketball program for high school juniors and seniors.Caira is a longtime supporter of the Wilmington Band Parents programs, a member of the Wilmington Knights of Columbus, and a member and former President of the Wilmington Sons of Italy, where he spearheaded numerous programs and fundraising drives in support of many important Town initiatives. His organizational and leadership skills resulted in his election to many prominent positions in the Sons of Italy including State President, National Vice President and currently National President of the Commission for Social Justice. He was instrumental in securing a grant for Wilmington High School to re-establish the Italian language program.Caira has been the Retirement Administrator for the City of Amesbury since 2012. Prior to assuming his current position, he worked 21 years as an administrator for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts State Retirement System.“I know what it takes to forge consensus among people of diverse viewpoints. If re-elected to the Board of Selectmen, I will continue to conduct myself both in public and private as I have all my life, civil in tone, respectful of others and tolerant of a wide variety of opinion. I will continue to be a strong independent voice on the Board of Selectmen. Residents can be assured that every decision I make will be what I believe is in the best interest of the Town of Wilmington.”Caira, who grew up on Chestnut Street, is a 1980 graduate of Wilmington High School and furthered his education at Boston State College. He and his wife Cheryl (Lumb) and their two children, Amy and David, live on Woburn Street. He is the son of Laura and the late Aldo Caira, who served the Town as a Selectman and as a member of the School Committee. His brother Michael retired in 2012 as Wilmington’s longest serving Town Manager.“I believe that each one of us has an obligation to help our community.
