Saskatchewan to introduce mandatory semitrailer driver training

first_imgIn the wake of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash which killed 16 people and injured 13, Saskatchewan has decided to introduce mandatory training for truck drivers. The required 70 hours of Class 1 driver training is expected to be in place by 2019.Once the new legislation is in place, a driver will need proof they’ve completed the training or they won’t be able to take the road test to become a Class 1 driver. The move, outlined in a Saskatchewan Government Insurance memo, may just be the first step.It hints the province may also opt for a course consisting of the 103.5 hours mandated by Ontario.Ontario is the only province which has mandatory training, all other provinces simply require commercial drivers to pass written, medical and road tests.last_img
