first_img Twitter Twitter WhatsApp One incumbent out, another stays Local News Pinterest Facebook Pinterest By Odessa American – May 1, 2021 Facebook WhatsApp From left, the candidates for the Ector County ISD Board of Trustees Position 4 Chris Stanley and Jesse Christesson and the candidates for the District 7 seat on the Ector County Hospital District Board Ben Casey Quiroz and Kathy Rhodes take part in a candidate forum hosted by the Ector County Republican Women’s Club Wednesday afternoon at the Odessa Marriott Hotel and Convention Center. Eli Hartman|Odessa American ECISD Position 4 incumbent Chris Stanley defeated challenger Jesse Christesson with 101 votes to 49 votes or 67.33 percent to 32.67 percent.Also, District 7 Medical Center Hospital board member Ben Quiroz was defeated by challenger Kathy Rhodes with 133 votes to 50 votes or 72.68 percent to 27.32 percent.Early voting ended Tuesday with 262 ballots cast and Saturday’s vote was 71 ballots cast total including early voting.Stanley said he came from Washington State when the University of Texas Permian Basin went to a four-year institution.Both will serve four years terms on their respective boards.Quiroz first won office four years ago and Stanley was appointed to the board after Trustee Doyle Woodall resigned in 2020.Quiroz is a local chiropractor while Rhodes is a business woman and local volunteer. Stanley is a professor at the University of Texas Permian Basin.Christesson, who is a home school high school graduate, said he doesn’t think there are certain qualifications you need to serve on a school board.Stanley, who holds a master’s degree, said both of his children graduated from high school in ECISD.
